Did you know you could get arrested for traveling with manga on your computer?  That’s what one American found out when he checked his laptop in at the airport in Canada.  A Canadian customs officer found the images on the man’s computer and considered them child pornography.  The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund (CBLDF) announced Friday that it is standing by the twenty-something computer programmer saying that the images are just manga style comics and not pornography.

An interesting bit of news for anime fans, Sam Raimi (who recently produced two Spartacus series for Starz) has been given the go-ahead to make a live-action adaptation of the highly-rated 2001 anime Noir for the cable TV network.  Raimi will partner up again with his Spartacus executive co-producer Rob Tapert for this one. Steven Lightfoot (Criminal Justice) has written the adaptation.  No word as of yet on who will be in it but in light of some of the casting choices for their other series like Eva Green and Joseph Fiennes in Camelot, I’m sure they’ll find some …

That’s the word on the web over the weekend as the Hollywood Reporter  stated that Warner Bros. is zeroing in on Reeves to star in the film adaptation of the legendary anime.  This is still, of course, just a rumor and Variety even posted an article warning the public not to jump to any conclusions just yet.

The manga distributor announced that it will be shutting down its North American publishing headquarters and will be holding what they are calling a garage sale to unload some manga, posters and other items from their warehouse.  Fans and friends of their Facebook page will get an opportunity to win a bag of stuff – all they need to do is submit video, costume pics, fan art, anything apparently that can be uploaded to the page before May 1.  Besides the shwag, winners will also get a pass to their private garage sale in Los Angeles on May 4.  Not a …

It seems like lately there’s been so much talk of American adaptations of Japanese manga, anime and film.  Well this time, it’s an American book series that will be adapted  into a full-length feature anime.  Mary Pope Osbourne, the author of the series, has been putting out these books since the early nineties.  They’ve been sold in 33 countries; 29 volumes in Japan alone. The Magic Tree House is so popular in Japan, that it has become a staple in elementary schools there.
