Clamp No Kiseki Chess Set!

I’ve played chess for fun since I was a kid and I enjoy it if I win or lose. The fun for me is in the game itself. I’ve been looking for a very special chess set for years and there are a lot out there–many have caught my eye, but none like the Clamp No Kiseki chess set.

Oh oh.  Could it be? And it seemed like the live-action Akira was full steam ahead, what with Garrett Hedlund scoring the part of Kaneda and Kristen Stewart being offered the role of Kai, not to mention additional offers being extended to Ken Watanabe and Helena Bonham Carter to co-star.  But then it seemed something was wrong when Warner had announced the contenders for the Tetsuo role and said they’d be making a decision before Thanksgiving then all we heard was crickets coming from them all through December. Now comes news that they’ve closed down their production office in Vancouver …

Trailer: Live-Action Rurouni Kenshin (aka Samurai X)

Rurouni Kenshin started out as a manga in Japan in 1992 and has since been adapted into an anime series, OVAs, video games and now has evolved into a live-action, full-length feature film.   Originally aimed at teens, Kenshin’s overall popularity can be easily credited to its lone samurai/romance formula.  However, writer/illustrator Nobuhiro Watsuki did originally intend the story to be swordsman-centered as opposed to a romance.

This is a synopsis of the film compliments of Comic Book Movie:

Japan is about to enter the Meiji era and transition from the Middle Ages to industrialization. The samurai have no place in this

Anime Vegas is a 3 day convention that takes place at the Alexis Park Resort in Las Vegas, NV.  In its eighth year, the event celebrates all things anime and has a friendly, warm atmosphere that you might not get from some of the larger, more populated cons.  There were numerous guest panels with voice-over artists, producers and illustrators, a charity auction, dealer exhibits, screening rooms showing AMVs and anime, a lounge with DJs and interactive games, and a live music showcase featuring musicians hailing from all over the world, but mostly the U.S. and Japan.

Kid Loses it in Store Over Pokemon

Kid Loses it in Store Over Pokemon

This video starts out innocently as a group of guys are standing around discussing Yu Gi Oh cards.  But behind them, a more dire and alarming scene unfolds as a young boy’s mother does the unthinkable and flakes out on a promise she apparently made to buy him more Pokemon cards meanwhile purchasing something in a pink box presumably for the kid’s little sister.  For those of you on the verge of or thinking about becoming parents someday, watch and learn….…

anime Highlights of Anime Vegas 8 Part 1

There was a great turnout this past weekend at Anime Vegas.  Moving the event to November was definitely a good idea since the weather is so much more bearable this time of year.  There was so much to see and do there over the weekend.  The costumes were amazing as always.  Cosplayers at this gathering keep outdoing themselves.  I love seeing all the work that goes into these outfits.    The vibe at this con is always friendly and relaxed.

Check back for part 2 for more specifics about the event.  Here are pics of some of the costumes:

Director Shane Black, who is also working on Iron Man 3, told a crowd during his panel at the Long Beach comic-con on Saturday that Warner studio execs wanted to make some changes to the Death Note story and that he fought to keep it true to the original.

One change the studio wanted to make was to give Light Yagami a backstory that would explain more fully his penchant for evil.  Specifically, they wanted him to have murdered a childhood friend when he was younger.  I would think that would take away from the actual power of the book …
