Melfina is an artist from from Dallas, Texas. In the interview below, she talks about her favorite Anime, influences, and the process’ of making her own costumes.

NS: How did you come up with your name, “Melfina” ?

K-ON! or Keion, a Japanese Anime that features a band of 5 girls from an all girls school—The Light Music Club! The Light Music Club plays mostly Bubblegum Pop reminiscent of the fictional band “The Archies” from Archie comics and the Filmation cartoon and quite possibly, they could even be compared to “The Monkees.”

Years after Evangelion went by the way side but remained in the memories of fans, Hideaki Anno revived the series in 2007 with The Rebuild of Evangelion. The Rebuild is a series of movies that take a lot from the original Anime series and updates it with cleaner, more modern art and animation and alterations to the story through the plotlines and even whole scenes are changed in order to give the Rebuild of Evangelion a new look.

What an awesome set! Huke, the creator of Black Rock Shooter released his art book in 2012; this special set includes the 200+ page coffee table book in full color with works pertaining to Black Rock Shooter, Steins Gate and other pieces. Also included is the Black Rock Shooter “Beast” Figma action figure.

The set comes packaged in a really cool brown cardboard box that has the same markings as an electronic appliance with the typeface “BLK” featured in bold.

Okay, this only works if you’re flying between Taipei and one of seven destinations: Shanghai, Seoul, Fukuoka, Tokyo, Sapporo, Honk Kong or Guam.  But this airlines is definitely the most kawaii out there. Eva Air first rolled out their Hello Kitty jet three years ago (to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the original Hello Kitty airplane) and they keep adding new routes. The first three planes were averaging 85-90% occupancy so Eva Air officials decided to add two more of the planes just this year.  Who’s to say they won’t eventually head on over to the US?

Anime Vegas 2012 was held at the Cashman convention center over this past weekend. The facilities were beautiful and provided a great venue for the event. In August, Masaki Kitamura, who was AD on both seasons of Mobile Suit Gundam OO, was arrested for posting a message on the city of Osaka’s website in July which read:  “I will commit a massacre in Otaroad next Sunday. I will ram into pedestrian paradise, and after stabbing indiscriminately with a knife, I will commit suicide” on July 29 at about 9:45 p.m.”  Otaroad is an area in Osaka where this “pedestrian paradise” is held; it’s a sort of Farmer’s Market type deal where the streets are closed off to cars and people can walk around and shop.

From Marvel, Madhouse and Sony comes the Blade Anime on DVD July 31st. This 2 disk set features all 12 episodes of the series and comes in a clam shell case with a disk on each side.

The Blade Anime has a very Japanese style story with a samurai theme to it. This is found more-so than in X-Men, Iron Man and even Wolverine—other Marvel series’ made into Anime.

Characters return cross-over style with an appearance by Wolverine and new characters are introduced such as Makoto, a vampire hunter who helps Blade in his quest for revenge against Deacon Frost.
