Geek Ink: Tattoos for the Nerdy and Geeky #1

Geek Ink: Tattoos for the Nerdy and Geeky #1

There is nothing more permanent or public like a Tattoo.  In the movie Eastern Promises with Viggo Mortensen, one character explains that “Tattoos tell the story of your life.”  People you’ve lost,  places you’ve lived, things you’ve loved, obstacles you’ve over come.  They are living, breathing art.

To the Japanese, tattooing represents the very highest level of artistic expression.  There is a museum in Japan where there are galleries of human skin on display, it’s that serious.

Every year when I go to conventions I notice more and more ink, and whats awesome about Geek Tattoos are that they’re such a …

DVD Review: Planet HULK 2-Disc Special Edition

DVD Review: Planet HULK 2-Disc Special Edition

Planet HULK DVD Review: Planet HULK 2 Disc Special Edition

Planet HULK may be based on an acclaimed comic book run, but something was clearly lost in translation. Flatly animated, the storyline plays like a one-note Gladiator. HULK is a tough character to base an entire animated movie around unless the supporting characters are memorable and the storyline compelling and Planet HULK just doesn’t get the job done. It’s nowhere near as good as the Ultimate Avengers movies and closer to their boring animated Iron Man movie (which was a true disaster, complete with new-age mysticism hooey and a boring Tony Stark arc).

Planet HULK (what a goofy title) starts with …

Akira Poster Akira To Become A Real Boy, A Live Action One That Is

The guys over at New York’s Vulture gives us the news that the Hughes brothers and Warner Bros. (that’s a lot of bromance) will be teaming up to create a live-action version of the anime classic, Akira. Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby (Iron Man writers) are also attached to the project with Leonardo’s company, Appian Way, producing. Warner Bros. also wants to plan Akira as two flicks.

Can’t say I’m excited about the news, since I thought the Hughes brothers’ other movie, From Hell, was quite a bore.

The question is, will the main cast be predominantly non-Asian? From what we …

Collections: Part 3!

Collections: Part 3!

In this final part of collections we’ll talk about the negative aspects such as selling, loss and not being able to stop.

There are some great photos of collections and some information for you.

Selling: Why would someone sell something that they spent so much money and time on? There are a few reasons why.

1. They NEED money, and a good amount of it NOW. We either get so wrapped up in spending the money to collect things that we don’t realize the bills need to be paid too–it happens… Or emergencies where money is needed and this is the …

john spartan and david hayter Interview: David Hayter Geeks Out with NERDSociety

David Hayter, a living legend in the gaming and comic movie world. Instead of sweeping girls off their feet, he sweeps nerds off of theirs. From stopping Metal Gears to helping bring the Watchmen and X-Men films to life, David’s got quite a resume under his belt. I had a chance to chat with the man behind the legend about Metal Gear, Watchmen, X-Men, Guyver, internet imposters (or clones, see what I did there?), future projects, and hurting Quinton Flynn’s feelings.

Before you read the interview, here’s a personal message from the man, himself!

NERDSociety (NS): One

Genshiken Volume 1 Anime Review: Genshiken 2 Volume 1 DVD

The anime series Genshiken is one of the best comedy/slice of life animes around. It has a gentle pace and pokes fun at the otaku (hard-core anime fans) in a mocking, but ultimately lovable way. The show has charm and wit and moves along at its own pace. It has the feel of real life instead of the more over-caffeinated anime comedies around such as Excel Saga or FLCL, but that suits this wonderful series just fine. The first series of episodes came out way back in 2005. Media Blasters has finally released Genshiken 2 in America and I must say, …

Trigun Movie Vash the Stampede 2010 Vash the Stampede is Back: Trigun the Movie

Here we have a teaser for the new Trigun movie coming out 2010 next year. It’s been almost an entire decade since the anime premiered and it was one of the few shows that made me fall in love with Japanese animation and storytelling. The footage was taken from Anime Expo 2009 during the Yasuhiro Nightow and Satoshi Nishimura panel.

I’m happy to see the lovable dork back. The movie takes place somewhere in the middle of the series, and is a self-contained story. From animenewsnetwork.com:

“The story is set in Makka, a town surrounded by quicksand. With rumors

Movie Review: Ponyo

Movie Review: Ponyo

ponyo Movie Review: Ponyo

Ponyo is the latest spectacular anime from Hayao Miyazaki (Princess Mononoke). Miyazaki has been making magical animes for years now and you can add Ponyo to his list of classics. Aimed towards younger kids (much like the near-perfect Kiki’s Delivery Service and My Neighbor Totoro), Ponyo is a colorful delight from start to finish. The detailed hand-drawn animation has a beautiful watercooler look to it that you just can’t achieve in CGI. A huge hit overseas, Ponyo was dubbed with loving detail by the Disney/Pixar crew and given a first-rate voice cast including Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett, Liam Neeson, …
