Do you live in California and have items in your Amazon shopping cart right now? If you do, you better make the purchase before midnight tonight or else you’ll be charged sales tax. California passed a law, charging sales tax to internet purchases (not just Amazon). I was saving on taxes before by buying items on Amazon (plus they’re already usually cheaper than retail stores). With Cali tax closing on 10%, that means it’ll add up. But whatever, it was good while it lasted. I knew this day would come, just didn’t know it was going to be this soon.
Update – A reader informed me that Amazon is still not charging tax for California residents. I checked it out myself today, July 2nd, 2011, and sure enough the tax is still $0.00. Woo hoo! This is getting interesting….
