Okay folks, Supernatural Season 5 is out, and does not disappoint. This is probably the best season to date, pretty much every episode is enjoyable from top to bottom. Okay, there are a few lacklusters, but it’s 22 episodes so it’s only understandable.
Season 5 deals with one major issue, the Apocalypse. Lucifer is loose, and is bent on destroying earth as we know it. Also, the angels are involved, but they are angry as they have been abandoned by their Father, and is set on fighting Lucifer and his crew, even if it means destroying anything that gets in their way. The Angels are arrogant, and sneaky. So, who really are the bad guys? A very good premise for a TV show, and it runs very well throughout the Season.
How are the Winchester Bros. involved in all this craziness? I don’t want to spoil anything, but all I can say is they have their purpose, and a big one at best. Lucifer plays an important role in the episodes, but is hardly there, which makes him “cooler” and more mysterious. Besides Lucifer, the Four Horsemen are also part of the whole charade. And yes, the 67′ Chevy Impala is still cruising around helping the Bros. get to their destinations.
As a zombie fan, one of the best episodes is called “Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid.” It’s not like your typical zombie flick, but holds the same backbone. Very original and engaging episode. There’s a good action scene in this episode set in a junkyard, good stuff.
Video – The video transfer is very good, but it has it’s weaknesses, there are scenes where the picture quality slightly breaks apart. But, that’s minor considering that the majority of the 22 episodes holds a crisp and clear picture quality. The 5th Season was shot digitally, and it comes out good. The blacks are very deep, which makes the darker scenes stand out more.

Audio – Still no Lossless track from WB, so I’m disappointed. But, it’s good quality that can significantly improve if WB decides to go the Lossless route. This doesn’t bother me much as the sound is impressive enough, strong enough to make me jump. But, I can see some people complain about this, especially the Audio Freaks, and they should.

Extras – Each discs holds different Extras, except for disc 3, Disc 1 has the commentary tracks, and disc 2 holds some deleted scenes. But, the bulk of the Extras are on Disc 4:
– Supernatural Apocalypse Survival Guide
– Ghostfaces: The Web Series
– Unaired Scene
– Gag Reel
I’m not a fan of Extras, as I only care about the show itself. But, the set of Extras has a lot of weight, and if you’re interested, these will keep you happy for hours!
Extras: B+
Overall – A very good Blu-ray transfer for a very good show. I am happy and enjoyed the viewing of the cleverly written episodes. Also, staying true to the first season, the campy sense of humor is still intact. It wouldn’t be the same without it. Also, keep an eye for Paris Hilton, she’s in there somewhere! Scary, isn’t it?
Overall: B+
