Blu-ray Review: Fast Five

Fast Five Blu ray Review: Fast Five

“Fast Five” is a slick and entertaining action flick and easily the best of the series since the original. The “Fast and Furious” franchise has always been a guilty pleasure but the latest is genuinely engaging and features some slam-bang action and terrific car chases. Director Justin Lin has become a good action director and the returning cast is at ease with the macho dialogue and non-stop fights and chase sequences. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson makes a nifty addition to the franchise as a brooding, sweaty federal agent.

“Fast Five” pairs Dom (Vin Diesel) and Brian O’Connor (Paul Walker) as they hide out in gorgeous Rio de Janeiro on the run from the law, eager to pull one last huge score. Dom and Brian must outrun a corrupt police force and a drug kingpin, while also avoiding a tough as nails federal agent played by The Rock.

The Blu-ray visuals never looked better. The exotic locales in Rio nearly pop off the screen while the surround sound will most certainly give your speakers a workout. Some nice extras include featurettes (the most fun being a look at the fight scene between The Rock and Vin Diesel) and a nice peek on set with director Justin Lin.

“Fast Five” is a hip “Oceans 11” for the younger set. Fairly well acted and filled with car chases and gunfights, it’s a fast-moving treat. The Blu-ray is truly a must-buy for fans of this unstoppable franchise.
