Axel Braun, the writer/director of Batman XXX, A Porn Parody, has filed a copyright lawsuit in U.S. District Court of West Virginia, alleging that 7,098 online infringers either downloaded, uploaded or shared his pornographic homage to the comic series illegally. With actors’ names like James Deen and Dale DaBone, it’s kinda hard to take a film like this seriously. What director Axel Braun is taking seriously is the amount of money he’s losing out on by people accessing his movie for free after the DVD was released in May of this year.
How do they know who all these people are? As many of you know, it’s a fairly simple process. All they need to do is make a list of all the internet protocol addresses of all the people who shared the file, then the lawyers file a complaint and get subpeonas from the court. These subpeonas allow the lawyers to obtain names and addresses from the suspected downloaders’ internet providers. The lawyers will then harass and terrorize those people to settle or get their pants sued off, assuming that they are wearing them at the time.
CNET offers a little comfort by saying that typically, with these types of lawsuits, the lawyers are just bluffing because it’s really not worth the cost of suing over 7,000 people if they refuse to settle. But Axel Braun isn’t screwing around. “F— ’em,” he told XBiz Newswire. “People don’t realize that when you pirate a movie it hurts all of the people who work very hard to get it produced… So we are going after every one of them who pirates our content.”
