Joseph Gordon-Levitt (JGL to his hipster fans like myself) is in talks to play The Riddler in the next Batman movie……or was he already cast ? It’s hard to seperate fact from fiction, but a lot of major websites are discussing this potential casting. As JGL’s biggest fan, I’d love to see him tackle a villain role in a big budget flick. He has done a lot of indie flicks and has now broken into the mainstream with his supporting role in Chris Nolan’s massive hit Inception.
If you just know him as the kid from 3rd Rock From the Sun be sure to rent Gregg Araki’s searing Mysterious Skin or Rian Johnson’s cool film noir Brick. After those two, check out JGL in The Lookout and the little-seen and underrated Uncertainty. Then head over to your local multiplex and see Inception.
JGL/Riddler story:
I don’t think we’ll ever stop talking about Inception, but it’s definitely time to start talking about director Christopher Nolan’s next long-awaited project—Batman 3. An inside source managed to get a peek at a studio casting grid for the film, which revealed two very intriguing facts.
According to the casting grid, which is used in the industry so production companies, agencies and others can keep track of a project’s progress and what roles may be available, the Riddler is definitely down as a character for the Dark Knight sequel. So at last we know for certain (if this source can be trusted, that is) the villain we’ll get to see battling the Batman on the big screen.
But who’ll get to bring him to life?
Turns out the same grid lists Inception star Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the role, with his status down as “interested.” Though “interested” isn’t the same as “signed,” this bit of news would support recent rumors of Gordon-Levitt in the role.
We won’t know for sure until we get some kind of official confirmation—at Comic-Con, perhaps?—but meanwhile, what do you think of the choice of villain and the actor who might play him?

After seeing Mysterious Skin, Brick and The Lookout, to say nothing of the masterful Inception, I’m willing to believe that JGL could play almost anything.
I’d love to see him turn to the dark side and portray The Riddler. He’s already proven how well he works with Christopher Nolan.
Excuse me, I’ve got to go watch Uncertainty.

I’ve heard that the Riddler’s supposed to be 35-45 years old in Batman 3, making JGL a bit too young for the role, but I think he’d nail it. He’s a fantastic dramatic actor and he’s got great presence onscreen so I think he’d be great for the job.
The age issue is the only thing that worries me, so my second choice for the Riddler would have to be Crispin Glover, although he’s a little absurd in real life so a shoot with both him and Christian Bale might be a little too intense.
Does the fact that JGL is a fan favourite hurt his chances of getting the role? Both Christian Bale and Heath Ledger, for instance, were slightly surprising casting choices considering all the speculation online about who would play Batman and the Joker. I guess we’ll have to see, since Nolan has yet to disappoint.

I think JGL is a very talented actor, and like Erica mentioned, the age thing being really the only major discrepancy, i think he would still make a good Riddler!!
Again i would agree with Erica that Crispin Glover would be a great choice too.

I think JG would be a great Riddler, the age of the characters in the Batman movies is some-what young, so it would work. But, I’m really looking at it in a way where he’ll respect the character and do a great job playing him.
I’d rather see Frank Gorshin over Jim Carey–so JG would be a great Riddler–he can’t be Marilyn Riddler from the, “The Batman” cartoon though…

I think jgl looks like heath ledger, so I prefer him playing the joker
