Official pics came out today for X-Men: First Class and you might be wondering about the characters. Since the story is about Magneto & Professor X in their younger days, many of the characters aren’t familiar to the movie audience. Let’s take a look at the female characters and the actors that play them.

The sexy blonde Emma Frost is played by January Jones. Emma Frost’s mutant powers are telepathy (which include mind control and thought projections) as well as the ability to turn into a flawless diamond form. She was once the White Queen of the mutant inner circle known as the Hellfire Club. After the death of her students that Hellions, Emma was asked to teach the newest generation of mutants known as Generation X with Banshee aka Sean Cassidy. She is currently the new headmistress of the Xavier Institute of Higher Learning with her partner Cyclops and a member of the anti-Illuminati known as the Cabal.

January Jones is a former Abercrombie & Fitch model. She’s had small roles in movies such as Anger Management and We Are Marshall. Emma Frost will be her biggest role to date.

Rose Byrne plays Dr. Moira MacTaggert. Byrne has been working in the entertainment industry for 17 years. She is known for her lead role in the tv show, Damages, opposite Glenn Close.Dr. Moira MacTaggart is one of the foremost authorities on human genetic mutation. She lives and works on Muir Island, off the coast of Scotland. In the books, she is now deceased, the first human casualty of the Legacy virus. Rahne Sinclair, her former ward, was a member of the New Mutants, X-Force, and X-Factor. Dr. McTaggart was known for her fierce determination, her sympathy to the mutant cause, and her ability to argue even Professor Xavier down.

The 22 year old daughter of Lenny Kravitz, Zoe, will play Angel Salvadore. Angel Salvadore is fourteen years old when her mutant nature first manifests, and she is driven out of her home by her abusive step-father. The following morning, she awakes and discovers that a cocoon has formed; she emerges after sprouting a pair of wings. She is captured by U-Men, humans who seek to harvest mutant body parts to graft onto themselves. Wolverine rescues her from a mobile operating theatre by the side of the road. He kills all the U-Men and escorts her back to the school. They stop for a bite to eat, which is a mistake as the diner owner has gone insane from previous dealings with his mutant family. They are attacked when the owner sees Angel digesting her food in the manner of flies.

Zoe is also a model for Vera Wang and plays in a band, Elevator Fight.

The blue skinned Mystique is played by Jennifer Lawrence. Lawrence is a model and actor. She was in the critically acclaimed movie, The Winter’s Bone. Mystique’s mutant power is the ability of shapeshifting, being able to turn into anyone. Mystique assumes all physical attributes of those she is mimicing including finger prints, retinal patterns and she can shift her vocal cords to match their voice. However, she cannot replicate powers of people she copies. Her mutation also slows her aging process. Mystique is an extremely skilled hand to hand combatant and also highly proficient with a wide variety of weaponry. She is also a brilliant tactician and strategist.
