If you have not visited the Adobe website lately (http://www.adobe.com), you probably have not seen the latest exchange between tech giants Adobe and Apple. An open cryptic letter resides top and center of Adobe’s homepage in <gasp> flash, so obviously, do not try to view this on your iPads :].
In case you missed it, here’s the history of this present-day clash of the titans:
The first iPhone was released in 2007 and much to everyone’s dismay, the iPhone did not support the popular new-age web development tool, Adobe Flash. Four Apple hardware and OS iterations later, it’s the same story for many of Apple’s newest products including the iPod and iPad, but now it’s with a vengeance.
Fast forward to late 2009, Adobe created an SDK workaround to port Adobe Flash code into iPhone native code. Flash-based apps started hitting the App Store in droves. All was well in Appstore land, until one April 8th day when Steve Jobs would announce Apple’s newest OS. Newly stated in the iPhone OS 4.0 SDK license agreement is a clause that will no longer allow Flash development of any form for the new OS. This news slaps Adobe in the face, whom was touting iPhone development functionality in its Flash CS5 release slated for May 2010.
Steve Jobs will go on to produce ‘6 Reasons Why Apple Will Not Support Flash’ in a press release. That is what brings us to today and Adobe’s “WE <3 CHOICE” homepage. Adobe is certainly out-gunned and ousted from iPhone territory.
Who are you with? Are you with Apple, or are you with Adobe? Are you with Coco? As for me, I’m with Coconut.
