It’s that time again: Anime Vegas time! This yearly event will be running from November 10-12, 2012. Due to the rain damage and recent flooding that destroyed the facilities at the Alexis Park Resort, Anime Vegas will be held at Cashman Field. Please see the Anime Vegas website for more information.
Anime Vegas is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to creating awareness of, and appreciation for, Japanese manga and anime (comics and animation), primarily through the presentation of monthly shows and yearly events, such as the Anime Vegas Convention held in Las Vegas, that celebrate art and culture from Japan and Asia.
Guests of honor will be voice-over actor Jerry Jewell (Dragonball, Fullmetal Alchemist) and Tiffany Grant who voiced Asuka from Evangelion. Joining them are Jonathan Klein, VP of New Generation Pictures, who puts out English language versions of a lot of the popular anime, Chris Smith (Joker in Lego Batman 2), animator/voice-over actor Justin Cook from FUNimation, Tabitha San Germain (Gotenks from Dragonball Z) and Tara Strong who played Harley Quinn in the Batman Arkham City game.
Musical guests include Midnight Shinigami and Kurenai from Japan.
Dealers and artists tables are sold out so there should be lots of goodies available for your perusing and buying pleasure. Of course there will be the yearly cosplay chess event as well as the very popular Anime Vegas Masquerade. There won’t be a theme this year but there will be a few My Little Pony cosplayers as well as those from other popular anime.
Finally, a charity auction will take place to benefit the Multiple Schlerosis Society and the Kids in Need Foundation. Among items to be auctioned are a Tron Rizzler Action Figure signed by Bruce Boxleitner (who played Tron in the original film), a Dragonball Z Season 2 DVD set signed by Sean Schemel (Goku), and a Fairly Odd Parents Season 1 DVD set signed by the entire cast. Reserved pricing starts at $15.
Anime Vegas is a lot of good natured fun and a great way to spend a weekend away from all the decadence you might find elsewhere on the strip. It’s a warm, supportive, friendly environment and safe for the kiddies (as it is a strictly PG-13 event). Come and check it out and don’t forget to wear a costume!
