Here’s what they have so far about the event. It starts on Friday January 7th and ends Sunday January 9th, 2011. It’s being held at the LAX (that’s Los Angeles Airport) Marriot, located at 5855 W. Century Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90045. The hotel phone # is (800) 228 – 9290. You can pre-register here with a credit or debit card for $45. for the whole weekend ($40. for students/military). If you are 14 or younger you can bring an adult with you for free. And by “students” they don’t just mean people under 18 still in school. They mean anyone who’s attending any sort of school, whatever age. It’s $50. at the door for everyone (except parent chaperones – they’re still free).
The guest of honor is Helen McCarthy, author of Hayao Miyazaki: Master of Japanese Animation. She also started the Anime UK (later called Anime FX) magazine. The toastmaster will be Tadao Tomomatsu, who played the NYPD detective Furakawa on the show Heroes. A lot of the usual events that go on with these types of things will be happening like an AMV contest, masquerade ball, and DJ’s spinning tunes after the last main event on Friday and Saturday evenings. Personally, I wouldn’t want to be one of the chess pieces, especially if people like me and my bro are playing. They could be standing there for like an hour. There will also be an ice cream social, karaoke, and a photo studio. Most of the deadlines have just passed for stuff like submitting to the AMV contest or getting an artist table so the site will be updating soon with more information on that and other live guests and events.
It might seem like a way off still, but a month can go by very quickly, particularly if you’re trying to put together some elaborate cosplay gear. (Believe me I know the perils of throwing together a last-minute costume). This isn’t me but you get the idea.
