I was at the event Friday night and Sunday. Organizers had a nice setup for tabletop gaming, which you could enjoy even if you didn’t have a pass to the convention. From what I understand, there was a good selection of Magic cards to buy.
Β There were booths of actors all in a row displaying their recent photos and the classic roles they were known for. Near the entrace I was greeted by the original Batmobile then Batman & Robin (Adam West and Burt Ward), which was a flash of the past and awesome to see. I also enjoyed seeing Erin Gray from the series “Buck Rogers in the 25th Century,” an old-school, fun sci-fi show from the ’70s. I also came across Angus Oblong, the creative mastermind of the animated series “The Oblongs.” His art books were hilarious and disturbing, which is what I’d expect. π
As I moved through the convention floor I also saw a Simpsons artist, some cute animal hats (panda was my favorite) and some great collectibles. I saw some merchandise I hadn’t seen at other conventions (or maybe I wasn’t so overwhelmed with the size of the floor that I could focus and take my time at each booth). I was happy to see a large supply of Star Trek collectibles, in fact I bought a nice cup set with Spock, Capt. Kirk, Ahora and Dr. McCoy. I was really tempted when I saw Stargate items (cheesy I know, but super fun!).
One line that I really wish I could have gotten was Kotobukiya’s Bishoujo collection of Marvel and DC statues! They look great, nice posing, expression and detail. My favorites where CatWoman, Phoenix and Dark Phoenix.
I really liked this intimate convention. I was lucky to see all the lovely nerds and geeks strutting their action hero costumes in celebration of all things nerdy and great. π I look forward to the next one and hopefully I will make it to the panels. π
