The guys over at New York’s Vulture gives us the news that the Hughes brothers and Warner Bros. (that’s a lot of bromance) will be teaming up to create a live-action version of the anime classic, Akira. Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby (Iron Man writers) are also attached to the project with Leonardo’s company, Appian Way, producing. Warner Bros. also wants to plan Akira as two flicks.
Can’t say I’m excited about the news, since I thought the Hughes brothers’ other movie, From Hell, was quite a bore.
The question is, will the main cast be predominantly non-Asian? From what we can judge from Hollywood movies like Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li, King of Fighters, The Last Airbender, and Dragonball: Evolution, YES! Need proof? See the video below.

Great video, too truthful. What a shame that the movie can and probably will become that…

This movie has been in the works since for 10 years now. Originally attached to direct was Stephen Norrington of BLADE. Unfortunately after his horrible experience directing Sean Connery in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, he said he would never direct again and since been a ghost.
