I was playing basketball with friends for a good two hours.  Afterwards we ate a Mexican restaurant where the talk turned geeky.  We talked about upcoming movies we were excited to watch as well as action figures, specifically Mighty Muggs.  We shared which Muggs’ we had, as well as the ones we wanted to get.  We all decided to go on a Mighty Muggs hunt at a local Wal Mart, which opened 24 hours.

So we go to Wal Mart and go directly to the toy section.  We noticed about 5 people waiting by the action figure line.  What the hell are all this people doing here late at night?  Is there another big Star Wars toy release?  I noticed a sign with  empty endcaps saying “Transformers 2 will be released at 12 am on 5/29/09”

Oh snap, it was already 12:05 and I didn’t see any Transformers 2 toys.  We look for the Mighty Muggs and don’t see anything we were looking for.  I was going to buy some DC Universe Series 7 figure but decided not to because it was just an impulse buy.

After going to the DVD section, we go back to where the people were waiting for the Transformers 2 toys.  They tell us there’s a stack by the aisle and there’s a crapload of Bumblebees.  We go over to the aisle and get ourselves 2 Bumblebees, one for me and one for Alfonso.  I open a box of “replicas” and me and Alfonso grab Megatron.  Yeah these figures didn’t look that great but when you’re hyped up, you want to buy a bunch of them.

Later on, the employees open up more boxes.  Everyone gathers around but this must have been the calmest set of nerds I’ve seen.  They were calling which ones had the first dibs to certain figures.  Wow, very organized.  The workers open up a Voyager class and I pick up an Optimus Prime.  There was only one Leader class box which only consisted of 2 figures: Optimus and Megatron.  One of the crowd asks who wants the Optimus Prime.  I take it.  No one was really hording the toys, unbelievable.  At the end of the night, I spent a total of $100.07 for  4 figures.  Alfonso ended up with an Optimus and Starscream Voyager classes, while Eddie got a Voyager Prime.  I love it when my basketball buddies also collect figures!

Looking at the toys right now, that was a pretty expensive purchase and the figures look pretty plasticky.  But if you look at the back of the box, they look pretty badass because they’re metallic.  Totally different from the final product.  I haven’t opened it yet so I might still return the figures because I’m having buyer’s remorse.
