Atmosphere.0 Sprites and Atmosphere

With today’s cookie cutter games and lack of real FUN and innovation, one may be ready to invest some time into some new I.P’s that have been out of the spotlight but have quite the well earned following of players who have always demanded a little more then a high poly count.

Akumajo x or Castlevania is one of these titles that just really has its very own unique feel that is worth diving into.

What Castlevania did back in the 8 bit era, was set a really solid sense of atmosphere, making it one of the most memorable Gothic horror game of its time. Today some have tried to capture that Gothic essence and have not come close. Even with the aid of 3D, nothing has set the standard then the 2D Castlevania’s (The 3d ones were not as good, but still totally worth the play. The unique atmosphere is captured quite well ). There’s nothing like going into a huge city of a Gothic castle, filled with themed areas that cater to different taste and slaughtering monsters with a huge arsenal of weapons and magic.

The production in music, texture and close attention to detail is an absolute work of art and rarely 2nd to none in todays 2D realm. When put together they create one of the most memorable 2D side scrolling quest you will embark on.

Coming soon is the new Castlevania for the Nintendo DS and I can’t wait to play this cornucopia of lush 2D and sound and ……..ATMOSPHERE!. It dose not take much to realize that what you see, had a lot of work and planning invested in to it, plus the many uses of different types of gameplay. And no there is no stylus control in this installment. Koji igashahari(creator of PS1 era , and forward Castlevanias) is a great developer and believes it is not needed and it interferes with the screen, which I can totally agree with. The man is about a good innovations and will not use a gimmick for the sake of having one in the game.

So if you just want to explore a little bit outside that next gen system and still want to crunch some buttons, this title I am sure is definitely worth your coins in support.
