2010 Summer Box Office Prediction

 2010 Summer Box Office Prediction

Yay, it’s that time of the year when school is out, weather is hot and everybody goes to the movies.  There’s some sure blockbusters out there but which one will be king?

Below are my predictions:

10. Sex And The City 2

I don’t get the craze about this movie either but girls are already planning to watch this with their friends on release day.  The original grossed about $150 million so expect a little less for the sequel.
Prediction: $125 million

9.  Knight and Day

This movie was already made before and it was called Mr. and Mrs. Smith.  Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz alone will sell the movie.  Tom Cruise might surprise us again with his comedic side, loved him in Tropic Thunder.
Prediction: $140 million

8. Prince Of Persia

Disney is hoping this will be there next “Pirates” franchise but there’s not much buzz about it.  The movie looks fun but it doesn’t scream BIG EVENT.  I still think Jake Gyllenhaal will attract an audience and Jerry Bruckheimer’s hype machine will be put to good use when everything is said and done.
Prediction: $150 million

7.  Grown Ups

This looks like your typical Adam Sandler comedy so this should be a hit.  He draws a big audience when he doesn’t do dramatic roles.
Prediction: $160 million

6.  A Team

The movie looks fun and this should start a franchise for Universal.  The action looks insane.  But UFC’s Rampage as BA looks shitty, I pity the fool!
Prediction: $175 million

5. Inception

Outside of the Batman franchise, Christopher Nolan’s movies aren’t box office hits.  But this sci fi thriller stars Leonardo DiCaprio and the teaser trailer looks pretty weird and kick ass.  Good word of mouth will make this movie a financial success.
Prediction: $200 million

4. Shrek 4

Part 3 sucked but since it’s Dreamworks CG, this movie will still make money.  I hope this is the last Shrek movie because the jokes got old after the second one.
Prediction: $250 million

3. Twilight: Eclipse

They’re pumping out these movies fast and who can blame the studio.  They don’t want the fans to realize that it’s the same story over and over, so they’re taking advantage of the hype.  Team Jacob FTW!
Prediction: $255 million

2. Iron Man 2
The interest for this movie is crazy and understandably so.  The first one was fun and the cast and crew is back, sans Terrence Howard.  Everywhere I go, all I see is Iron Man, whether it’s at 7-11 or on Facebook.  Even girls that aren’t usually interested in movies want to watch it.

Prediction: $325 million

1. Toy Story 3
Pixar hasn’t disappointed Disney at the box office yet and Toy Story 3 will be no exception.  This movie will be king because everyone loved the first 2 movies.  Add to the fact that Pixar has a good track record when it comes to quality movies where it melts your heart and you have a sure winner.  Oh yeah, plus it’s in 3-D!!!

Prediction: $450 million
