I knew beforehand that Metal Gear Solid (MGS) creator, Hideo Kojima was a movie buff. You can just tell by the games’ cinematic scenes that he wants to have the same production value as high budget movies. Sure 2001: A Space Odyssey, is on the list but what surprised me though was that MGS wasn’t really influenced by science fiction movies. It was more influenced by some of my favorite action movies including Black Hawk Down and Die Hard.
With the crazy story that MGS has, I was certain Kojima would be more into Blade Runner or Robocop. Kojima teamed up with Japanese rental online service, Tsutaya and came up with the movies that influenced MGS:
Full Metal Jacket
Die Hard
Heat
Predator
Black Hawk Down
The Guns of Navarone
The Great Escape
Goldfinger
2001
Planet of the Apes
The Deer Hunter
Dawn of the Dead
Children of Men
The Bourne Identity
Casino Royale
Is your favorite movie on his list?

You gotta be kidding me, right? Where the hell is Escape From New York?????? You realize the idea of a soldier-turned-criminal-turned-super soldier and even the name of Snake are the same, right?

thanks for this, I know that MGS is not an original master mind created game.
Kojima fanboy who loves sucking up to his ass 24/7 just makes it seem as if HE IS all that legendary.
About the backstory and evolution of the franchise in terms of Storybible, I can tell that Kojima read a lot of books back at Uni and had notes of MGS for future references in which case he later used to develop MGS.
I dislike psfanboy they just want to sound as if their opinions are always right and a fact.
I seriously love MGS4 man, the way Snake just handles the gun+knife is surreal!

Umm.. where’s rambo and terminator?
The Roy Campbell is a direct spawn of the Colonel from rambo, and the cover of MG1 is a direct copy from the original terminator posters, where Kyle Reese is hiding from the cops in a photo both at the start of the movie
